Thanks for the link. Let me see if I understand it right: I have to use the utility checkup5.exe to upgrade the CPU errata microcode stored in the BIOS. All I have to do to perform this is run checkup5.exe in a clean DOS enviroment?

I have got a .bin for a VME Bus based PC card.

I have got a .bin for a VME Bus based PC card.
Actually it is an Award 4.51G bios which comes up with the following information 03/29/2000-i440BX-SMC80x-2A69KEH0C-00.
The manufacturer is Eltec in Mainz/Germany.
I would like to understand what I need to do to add USB memory stick boot support to this BIOS.

Thanks Fzabkar
I am not sure what package comprises the Maximus Decim Native USB driver set.
I have attempted to install the Windows 98SE Generic USB Mass Storage Device Drivers v 3.3-nusb33e.exe but looking back on it I think I may have got it all wrong –Mass Storage Device ?? Anyhow the installation I attempted failed The following items appear in Device Manager
USB2.0 Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
VIA PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller.

I am probably being very stupid but I could not find the Native USB Driver Set in the link you provided. I would be very grateful if you could point me in the right direction.
Kind Regards & thanks again.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem...

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem!!
About six months ago my computer suddenly stopped booting complaining about some sort of 'bios checksum error'????
I tried a reset and all worked well again. But then it stopped booting again and again and I decided to flash the bios, no problem, just resetting til it started normally, enter setup, flash utility and that's that: all worked well again. For six months.... and then.... it started all over again and I haven't got a clue why! Confused

It boots, says:

award bootblock bios v1.0
bios checksum error
floppy drive detected etc.

resetting doesn't help anymore! Evil or Very Mad
No system disk works, it only wants to boot awdflash.exe but if I copy awdflash and the proper .bin file to a system floppy it boots awdflash and then my monitor turns off or sometimes there are all kinds of coloured blocks on my screen. Question Question

Can anyone tell me what is the cause of this problem,

system:

chaintech motherboard 7AIV0
128 MB RAM
Duron 900
Geforce 4 MX
30 G HD
CDROMv 52 speed

No hardware changes lately, no overclocking, nothing changed in setup

I have disconnected one by one every device and tried different RAM modules but nothing works, checksum error is still there.

I hope someone knows what to do next?

I would definately stick with the Gateway bios on your system. Once you put the Intel on you may not be able to go back. There is a way to change the boot screen if you want. The Intel Integrator Toolkit I believe will let you do this. (do a google search for the name to find it). You must have the bios set with both the .BIO & .ITK files. The intel integrator toolkit loads up the .itk file and uses it to change default cmos values and also to change the boot screen. You can then save the changes and flash with the updated copy. I am not sure if it matters which flash method you use. I don't know if both methods use the .itk file or not. I am not even sure if it utilizes the .itk file during flash. The .itk file may only be used to update the .bio file using intel toolkit. If you use this method, you can let us know. Keep in mind, I'm sure there are some guidlines about the size and color depth of the boot screen you will use. You can probably find that info using google as well. Check the help file in the intel integrator toolkit. It may be in there also.
Good Luck!

You should start by reading the FAQ. This will tell you that you can ID your board manufacturer by looking at the BIOS string. If you follow the link at the top of the page "Award BIOS IDs" you will find out that 2A5LD is VXPro+ chipset and H0 is Hsing Tech (PC-Chips).

There are other routes. If you enter 2A5LDH09C
